Hi there,

I am using sand and cement 3:1 mix to lay floor tiles. I couldn't use adhesive because the max depth stated on back is 5mm and I was having to use 3 times as much and everytime I did that the tiles sunk the following day. So sand and cement is cheaper and easier for me. Problem is, I don't understand this logic:

Well you'd use sand and cement to lay a screed right? Well if you laid a screed at a depth of 15mm it would surely crack after a short time. Thing is I'm laying tiles at that depth so I'm worried that it's all going to crack underneath or will it not? Why would it be an exception? What's the difference? But I've heard you can use sand and cement to lay tiles, this is what I don't get. BTW I'm laying the sand and cement as i go along, NOT levelling the floor with it all in one go and then laying.

Just wanted to know your thoughts about this. I'm about halfway through the room. P.S I've been priming first, letting dry, then applying bonding coat of PVA 3 parts PVA to one part water, then I'm putting the cement and sand down @ 13mm ish, letting it dry and then putting my adhesive on @ 2mm, so far having no problems. Room is 4M X 3M and won't get too much traffic.
