One of my biggest motorway driving bug bears, is re-joining the middle lane, having used the outside lane for overtaking, only to find a parallel vehicle wanting to occupy the same space, but overtaking and exiting the nearside lane - whilst I'm in the van on my own. You have to plan way ahead because your side mirrors aren't always able to capture what you need to see in your blind spots.

Of course an infinite number of different situations can arise while driving, and one has to do one's best in the circs, but there are plenty of drivers who will not use the left lane irrespective. I accept that if you're in a van, with poorer visibility than a car, you're entitled to a bit more leeway!

no one else in the world would start an argument about the difference between undertaking and overtaking on the left unless they have some sort of mental condition. Or just an argumentative tozer.

You don't move into a space (lane, in this example) unless you can see it is clear and safe to do so.
