Spurring to make an additional socket

. Could this be something I could incorporate for my situation, as in could I run cable from that up to my new sockets?
Possibly.
Does your fusebox / consumer unit have an RCD in it?
Post a picture of it and the surrounding area if unsure.

Its an old style re-wireable fuse type one. Really want to upgrade it but been quoted high prices.

Here is a pic of whats there just now. The socket on the left is for an old electric fire that used to be in the house before I moved in.
It's not a socket; it is a switch.

It is in the fuse box in the kitchen marked up as “fire point” and is 15A. Im assuming that it has one cable coming in from the mains, and the other is going out to what was the old fire? Not sure where it goes as theres now a gas fire there so I assume its been terminated at the other end when gas fire was installed?
Does your gas fire have any electrical parts?

Although it still lights up when I switch the switch on. Could this be something I could incorporate for my situation, as in could I run cable from that up to my new sockets?
Yes.

If it does NOT supply anything on the fire, then you could disconnect this cable

and run a cable to your new sockets.

If it does supply the fire then you could still add your new cable to the terminals of that cable which would be controlled by the switch, or
add your new cable to the top terminals where it would not be controlled by the switch.

Of course you could always use the socket to the right if it is on the ring circuit. Use 4mm² cable then no FCU is necessary.

The trouble with this thread is that there are so many options, it is difficult to cover everything at once.

The fire is gas only. Plus the switch is always off and fire still works. Unless it somehow powers the ignition switch? I can go under the floor and crawl along and look. Or could remove fuse at fuse box and see if it still works

I'm surprised you haven't already looked under the floorboards. You might be able to make use of the lead that did go to an electric fire.

Yeh thats my plan to look tomorrow so I can see what Im dealing with. Be handy if theres plenty of slack but cant see it. Will need to order some cable anyway as only have 1.5mm in the garage

Do you mean the switch that is there just now with the red light? That was actually what I was going to do Once I worked out if I could use that wiring.

Okay Ill check out the wiring under the floor and see where it goes. Hopefully its just sitting there connected to nothing, then I can replace that existing switch and wire oneards from there
