Ssssssshhhhhh, don't mention Reform.

My Reform voting friend has just been telling me that the reason we need so many immigrants, especially in care work, is that the pay and conditions for low skilled work are so bad. Also, he thought it would be better if they were employed directly by the councils, NHS etc. He believes with substantially better pay and conditions, we could fill these jobs without using immigrants. He wouldn't accept, however, that forty years of privatising, out sourcing and destroying unions had anything to do with it. I'm not making any point, other than we are in a mess and it is all very complicated. We didn't even get on to how much the cost of care would increase.

So ow many family can a caseworker bring then

It is difficult to get the exact answer. Also, I believe the rules were tightened a lot last year.

It looks like at the peak, in 2023, there were just over 200,000 dependants of those on care worker visas. And there seem to have been 140,000 actual care workers. But the ONS figures are not laid out particularly clearly. At one point, however, it mentions an average of three applications for dependants per care worker during this peak period.

students have to be post grad or ph.D.

You can apply for a dependant visa if you are a dependant of a person on a eligible UK visa.

Spouse or common law = 1
children = as many as you like
parents 2 each, so 4

quite a lot of people being able to access benefits, NHS etc. for someone on zero to not very much tax.

Latest figures. It seems some of Bojo's worst excesses are being reversed.

In 2024, visas issued to dependants of students fell by 85% to 22,000 compared to 2023

I like the picture. Just shows how f**ed the system is.

It was certainly exploited by tuition fee hungry universities degree factories

Great idea - full audit to identify cost savings.
The intention is not to identify nor make savings.

The intention is to ditch all net zero stuff because Reform party are funded by fossil fuels
The intention is to use it amplify their childish culture wars to excite their childish supporter
The intention is to use it as an opportunity to privatise existing services, making them less efficient and more expensive

Notchy seems to think the more we spend the better service we get.
Motorbiking says the £800million Rwanda scheme that sent 2 people (who were paid) was great value for money.

Motorbiking thinks giving out £4.3b in bogus PPE contracts to Tory mates was great value for money.

I have no problem helping genuine refugees from these countries. I do think that if we want to help them then help them in either their own countries or set up a safe zone for them in another country in order for them to be fed and receive medical care. Not pay traffickers 5k to get here from safe countrys
If they stayed in the safe country of their landing that country would be overwhelmed.

We should share the burden.

I see Reform party want to carry out a full audit (to see what key services they can ditch or privatise)

so they are starting with a load of bureaucracy.

thats not very efficient
