Stairs were split , need repair

One of stairs was split so i cut out a section, now wondering how to fix it, any ideas appreciated, thanks

Can you fix horizontal bearers under the existing tread Tony......sort of half and half if you see what I mean - so you can screw to the existing and still support the new patch? 2"x1" timber should be fine.

Yeah - I was thinking the same but didn't want to influence - the existing stuff is solid so should be OK - thanks
