Starter Problem

Hi Guys,help needed,when i turn the switch to start the starter dosnt always work,it is just dead,when i turn the switch again the starter works,this has been going on for a few days now and is happening more often.
I know it could be one of several things,the switch itself the starter solenoid or the starter itself or a poor earth or poor connection somewhere.
My vehical is a Ford Courier 1.8 td di its like a van version of a Fiesta 2001.
Dose anyone know if a relay is fitted if yes, where?
Any idea where to start with this problem ?

Its most likely the starter but its not difficult to check. Connect a length of wire to the battery+ and just touch the other end on the small terminal on the starter solonoid, if the starter turns its OK, if it doesn't it isnt.

check the connections too, a loose or corroded connection can cause this especially at the battery.
