ANYONE OUT THERE ABLE TO HELP ME SOT OUT MY STERLING 90 BURNER. FAN RUNS AND HAVE SPARK BUT CUTS OUT AFTER A FEW SECONDS. HAVE FITTED NEW CONTROLLER AND COIL. ONE THING A NOTICED THA VOLTAGE TO COIL WAS ONLY 60 VOLTS. BUT COIL IS MARKED UP AS 240 VOLTS
HAVE PLENTY OF OIL. IT HAS ONE OF THOSE TIGER UNIT NEXT TO BOILER. OIL IS GETTING TO PUMP BUT IF I DISCONNECT PIPE FEED OIL TO BURNER NO OIL. IS THA VOLTAGE OF 60V CORRECT
So do you have oil at the pump? That sentence says you have oil at and if you disconnect it, you have no oil. I would expect that. Does your photocell work?
Lastest to my problem. I diconnected flex feeding coil from control box. Reset controler then applied 240 volts to coil and away she fired. any ideas, i have replaced control modual. is it poosible that the new controller would have the same fault. Iknow it seem unlikly.
Try disconnecting the Photocell, if the Burner then Purges, Fires up after approx 12 Secs and then Locks out after a further 10 secs, this would indicate that the Photocell is faulty and needs replacing
The firing then stopping is symptomatic of a photocell problem.
The coil issue is interesting and it should have 230v, absolutely.
I would check polarity of the supply to the burner. I would also check the coil 60v when the coil is in circuit, assuming you have measured the leads disconnected, just in case you are seeing an induced voltage.
I have read the coil supply voltage connected and disconnected from coil, and it is the same, 60v Also i monitored the voltage coming from control board while having it disconnected from coil. But with to coil fed direct with 240v. it still was 60v and the burner was runing fine without cutting out with the 240v fed direct with240v I let it run for 30mins like this with no problem.
Thank you 'Oilman'. but if photosenor was suspect woulden it of gone into lockout!! As i said with coil fed direct with 240v it ran for 30mins untill i myself turned the power off
If the photocell is faulty - and detecting light where there is none, the burner will not put 240v to the coil (which is what your boiler is doing)
as I expalined if you dissconnect the cell and run the burner if it then fires up normally (it will lock out after a few secs as cell is dissed) this will prove the photocell as faulty
