Stop and Search powers to be made permanent

no, but why shouldn't we catch some of the people who do the highest value crimes?

or are you soft on them?
They would need a reason to search anyone's property. If they have a valid reason, they should act on it, regardless of who they are targeting, and give out sentences that will hurt the guilty.

so if you arrest ten thousand random white, middle-aged men, and search their homes, computers, offices and bank accounts, you'd have the best chance of findings some tax evaders, embezzlers, mortgage fraudsters, violent thugs, bank robbers and fake passport users.

When shall we start?
asap isn’t soon enough.

Well lets change that so that they dont need a reason.

What could be wrong with that? People who have done no wrong have nothing to fear, after all.

Car boot sales any one selling used power tools en masse should be arrested

any one buying the tools should also be arrested

2 years in jail no parole for sellers

1 year 9 months with out parole for buyers

what?

you think a "valid reason" is needed?

This seems to be more section 60 in problem areas

What is a Section 60 order?
A small proportion of stop and searches can currently be carried out without requiring "reasonable grounds". These are called Section 60 orders.
A Section 60 can happen in a set area - usually a neighbourhood, or sometimes a whole borough - for a defined period of time.
Often this follows a violent incident, or if police expect a crime to take place.
In 2019, a pilot scheme extended Section 60s, including:

  • Allowing less senior officers to authorise - or extend - a Section 60
  • Relaxing the grounds from a reasonable belief that serious violence will take place to a belief it may take place
  • Increasing the time an order can be in place from 15 to 24 hours
  • Removing the requirement local communities to be told where the order is in place
The government intends to continue these powers.

So if some one lives in an area where various things have been happening the police will stop who ever they feel like stopping. A bit Tory to my mind as people will see it happening but that doesn't mean it will have any effect. The high vis jackets for offenders doing public service type work is similar but I feel making these people look stupid as well may have more effect. The Taliban more or less stamped out the early stages of drug production by dying people who did it green.

" a neighbourhood, or sometimes a whole borough "

City of London, perhaps. Westminster. Docklands. Hornchurch.

Scenario,
Police get information that four black kids have stabbed someone on the underground.

Age and skin colour

White, middle-aged.

All you need.

'People' that use 'air quotes' and ‘finish' every post with an exclamation mark! Oh **** it. Ellal. That one needs its collar felt. That’ll be me banned from this thread.

Obviously they’re the majority, but if you base it on percentages its another story.

It is indeed.

2.68 x as many white people were stopped than black.

But 7.8 x as many white people were arrested than black.

That says that in any group of people, white ones are almost 3x more likely to be found to be doing something arrestable than black.

So, if everybody was black, crime would be reduced by two thirds?
