I've just moved house.

After a few hours searching for the stop cock, the next door neighbour told me it will be under a flap near the front door. Only problem is its covered by laminate flooring, which I believe is quite new, so don't really want to go hacking it up.

I'd just like some advice on the best course to take.

Is it possible to perhaps cut a rectangular piece out of the laminate where the cover is and cover with a suitable mat so Ican get easier access.

Help!!

Cant you just stop the water from outside? In the pavement you will find a small black hatch lift the flap and you can cut off the water there.

yes thats your best plan

do you have any spare planks !!!!!!

if you dont your in trouble how do you know exactly where to cut to make the hatch !!!!!

the only way i can see it working is by removing the beading lifting the floor at the door to peek underneath to see where its located then cut a small hole that you think is in the centre off the "hatch "should be and extend by 1" in every direction untill you locate all edges of the hatch and make a new hatch from the new boards !!!

have a look on your neighbours house to make an estimate of where to cut.

You might as well make a comfortable sized hatch that you can lift up and climb down. As long as the stopcock is somewhere near it will be easier than making several small ones and finding they're in the wrong place.

And it will give you the opportunity to use some of these

Thanks for the reply guys.

The next door neighbour says the hatch is definitely in the same place as his. I ran my old metal detector over the area and that at least confirms there are pipes there. Perhaps I need a water diviner!!

Regarding the outside, I have looked in the cover. What I can see is a metallic green top with a silver ring around that. I would obviously need a specialist tool to do any turning off in that department?

I have found a spare box of the laminate in the shed, which is handy. So perhaps I'll look into making some sort of hatch which can be covered with a mat.
