Not related to my previous post

    I have windows xp sp2
Last year I tried to sync an old phone, and was unsuccessful
Now every time I turn on a pop up says , it failed
    And the wizard thing starts
Can anyone advise how I can stop this now
    Thanks

    Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs.

Look for the entry in the list and click the button.

looked but cannot see nothing relevant in there
I dont think it did nstall, though, I may be wrong it started and failed and now just seems to continue looking for the device, on switching on to try to install it.
But I no longer have the device

I think you are goimg to have to tell us what the pop up and messages actually say. All the words and numbers.

    "Thing" is not specific enough

    On turning on
    lower right pop up
    Found new hardware pci device

    goes off
    Big box comes up
    welcome to the hardware wizard
    Pci device
if you have a disc insert it now

what do you want to do

    install auto reccomended
    install from list advanced

    next
    using auto setting
    Please wait while searches

    After 30 seconds
Cannot install this hardware cannot find the necessary software

Dont prompt me again to install this software (ticked)
I have tried tick and untick but still does it
You then tick cancel and the box goes

Some software doesn't always show up on Add/Remove software box.

Go to start, show all programmes and look down the list of programmes you have installed. See if the unwanted programme is listed - if so, hover your mouse over it and see if it gives you an Uninstall option. If so, do that.

A pci device sounds more like it could be a card in the system thats not wgot the drivers installed, like a network card or something that you might not use.

Check device manager in control panel, and make sure none of the hardware listed has an exclamation mark next to it.

    Dont see nothing there
    But I am no expert

    There is microsoft active sync
The symbol next to it i think is the same as what i have seen in the bottom right corner sometimes

Nothing happens if i hover on it either.
    And no uninstall option
In the other screen it is 14.77mb and has a remove option

I think this may have been for my very first phone what I still have
maybe i should charge and try that one

Well its strange because the hardware wizard is what it says a hardware wizard.

So unless you have any new hardware thats connected and doesnt have the drivers installed im not sure why its coming up.

Try downloading the latest version of activesync from microsoft and reinstalling.

Also in activesync check your sync partnerships and delete any you dont use anymore, im not sure exactly how you do that because im on Vista now and its different.

Post a screenshot of your desktop and device manager if possible.
