I lifted the sewer manhole in my garden for the first time the other day (theres no gulley, needed to drain the CH). There are two inlets and one outlet. The wierd thing is that the outlet is ABOVE the level of the inlets. So the inlets are constantly submerged. The outlet has quite a slope to it as well, its not like they needed to step up the outlet for any reason.
Now, one of the inlets is from where the outside toilet would have been, about 2 feet away. The other inlet is from a plastic modern soil stack, installed about 2004 about 12 foot away.
Is there any reason for the inlets to a manhole to be constantly submerged?
