We're having the whole house painted and our window sills/lintels are flaking in some places. But the paint on them is so thick that just cleaning up the loose bits and repainting, it would look terrible even if we tried to sand the edges smoother. We'd loose all the clean edges and smooth surfaces and I want to do it properly.

Is there any particular technique to strip masonry or is it same as wood - mixture of heat-gun and stripping chemicals?

It's not worth the effort trying to remove the paint, far more efficient to scrape off the loose paint and fill the low spots with filler and then sand as required.

That's interesting, would not have thought of that as a good option.
