Hey everyone,

Thinking of installing a log burner during my current renovation, the chimney breast looks a little shallow right now so I was wondering if it would be ok to batten out the face with 2x2 in order to gain some extra depth? another option would be that c-stud metal.

Thankyou, any feedback is much appreciated.

Post a picture, but essentially, depth isn't required. If the fire sticks out into the room, then more heat will be pushed outwards. You'll use a 30 or 45 degree stove flue to get from the chimney, out to where the stove sits, so no increase should be necessary.

Minimum distance to combustibles needs to checked.

Ps. Hetas classes plasterboard as combustible.

Could you use cement board instead... would that be Hetas approved?

Yes use the concrete board instead (Hardiebacker or similar). I used the 12.5mm stuff - great to work with, fairly easy to cut.
