Hi

Quick question.

I believe that the regs regarding supp bonding in a kitchen were changed as they found it to be more dangerous when supp bonded. Can anyone explain why this is? And why doesn't it make a bathroom installtion dangerous? Many thanks.

Was there a steadfast regulation for supplementary bonding in kitchens? Anyone still got a copy of the 15th edition?

Yes, I have a brown copy, amended June 1987.

413-7

Within the zone formed by the main equipotential bonding, local supplementary bonding connections shall be made to metal parts, to maintain the equipotential zone, where those parts:

(i) are extraneous conductive parts (see definition), and

(ii) are simultaneously accessible with exposed conductive parts or other extraneous conductive parts, and

(iii) are not electrically connected to the main equipotential bonding by permanent and reliable metal to metal joints of negligible impedence.

Note: Where local equipotential bonding is provided in accordance with regulation 413-7, metalwork which may be required to be bonded includes baths and exposed metal pipes, sinks taps tanks and radiators and, where practicable, accessible structural metalwork.

Admittedly I was 9 when these regs were out, I have only ever known 16th edition

LOL whats a 9 year old doing with a copy of the regs....are you sure you meant 9? lol

Maybe 10?, I'm 28 now.
I'd have been 3 when the 15th edition was introduced and 13 when they were binned.

I haven't got a copy of the 15th :?
The earliest copy I have is yellow cover 16th.

LOL, I need to go back to specsavers, i was reading you as securespark

just out of interest, are you self employed?

Just for your information, I was born the year the 14th was introduced!!

Wow, I can feel the wind produced by all of you turning to the beginning of the regs to find out when that was....

Try Googling Paul Cook IEE and earthing...

"Installing or upgrading of supplementary or Main equipotential bonding does not need notifying to the local building control officer." (Quote from paul Cook).

Is this true?
