Just wondered what options there are for providing power to a peninsula in a kitchen.

I've seen pop up banks of sockets but they seem to need a lot of cupboard space below - does anyone know any other approaches?

Do you mean an island unit

Does the work top overlap the cupboards?

We often install a twin socket right at the top of the cupboard (on the outside) so it ends up tucked under the worktop

I've also seen the use of desk hole cable management 'cups', then inside the under work surface a series of sockets or f/spurs.

very little. The popups don't look very good in that regard either.

personally I would try and make some kind of rasied construction to mount the sockets on as part of the island unit.

I meant that it is joined at one end only and projects from the wall.

The socket under the worktop dodge is cunning - and the design isn't finished yet so the worktop could be a bit longer. :)

You could extend the length of the worktop past the end of the base units by a few inches and fit a flush mounted socket directly underneath the end of the worktop. Pin the cable to the underside of the worktop all the way back to the wall. Make sure that the base unit does not incorporate a drawer. Choose a socket style to match the base unit. If you must have a drawerline style (to match the rest of the kitchen) then you wouldn't need to extend the worktop, but instead fit the socket onto a false drawer on one side of the peninsula.

Hope this helps.....

I should have written "pin the cableS", because the socket should be on a ring.

LeedsInExile / Ratter, please post from the same screen name for your question to avoid confusion.

Not sure how this happened - I think the autocomplete got carried away. I didn't create the other user either - must have been my teenage son.

Sorry for any confusion, wasn't done intentionally

Thanks for all the ideas :)

Power to islands is a pain in the ass. My solution was to install a floor box thatallowed power to be supplied as and when needed. To be honest unless you have a big kitchen or the island is your only work space I would not really bother.

You could consider pendant sockets that you pull down from the ceiling. Rarther expensive thou!!!!
