Power shower pump gave up the ghost this morning, went to isolate the supply to the pump prior to removal and could not find a fuse.

Tracked the cable and found it spurred into one of the light switches outside the bathroom door.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but would the pump not be better having it's own supply?

Not necessarily it's own supply depending on the rating of the pump(watts) but it's own isolation is a requirement of the regs.

Thanks for the answers, its a Mira pump rated at 275w, just over 1amp if my sums are correct.

Feeding a shower pump off the lights is not desireable, but it is allowed. There should however be a local isolator for the pump just incase something goes very wrong, you can isolate it quickly and safely. (it also makes servicing / replacement alot easier too.)

RF mate...

Can you explain the difference between "wrong" and "very wrong", in an electrical context?

Easy...

Something goes wrong. Sparky will say bu**er

Something goes very wrong. Sparky will say Oh F***

I say that when I drop the cutters on the floor and have to come off the ladder and to get them

I can't do that. Customers about and all that. Plus, if you drop 'em, hope they don't:

break the bath

put a dent in a brand new laminate floor

gouge a hole in an antique table top

clout someone on the noggin....
