Swapping out RCDs and MCBs for RCBOs

It's anyway nice for the MCB's to do the work rather than the fuse.

And 2.5mm for an alarm is OTT.


I disagree. The fused spur will have a 3 amp fuse, and having a 20 amp supply is always handy if you want to add a socket or something.

(Even though alarms are best on their own circuit.)
 
I would insist they replace that older style 6a mcb, i think that was the range that was recalled.

Just incase the cost of RCBO's puts the OP off the idea. And he's paid for all these mcb's :(

My understanding of the above it that the customer has paid for RCBOs, but has ended up with a box full of cheapo MCBs!

That's how it sounds:

It's the spec. that the client issued to the contractor on which to base his tender.

Given that plus the number of circuits, it sounds as though the client didn't want to skimp in any way on the wiring.
 
The defective ones would overheat and melt themselves and the surrounding items when moderate loads were connected to them - loads well within the rating of the MCBs.
