at the moment, not a good situation switching on and off at wall socket (by leaning over machine) was going to fit a proper NVR in a sensible place. But what is the correct way to do this, do I link the NVR direct to the router or do I wire the load side of the NVR up to a 3 point socket then plug the Router into that ?

If it's a permanently installed machine, then wire it in.
If the router can be taken out and used separately, use the socket.

so no definitive rule, I was going to put a socke between but someone said thats not allowed !
I can't see a logical reason why not, hence questioning it

Google an NVR, or Network Video Recorder, that is clearly not what you are referring to, so will guess you mean no volt release? I used an active RCD adaptor to do that job.

Router, is this a wood working machine, or a device to direct the internet?

My old wifi controlled energy monitor and remote controlled socket,

would turn off if power lost, but tested with Tapo version, and it shows red light after being plugged back in then goes to green again i.e. on.

Nene Valley Railway ?

NVR = No Volt Release Switch (it won't turn on when you plug it into the wall, quite a good safty thing)
