I am in the process of replacing my pyronix euro46 with a texecom 64-w. Self install, not a professional so please be gentle.

I think I've got all the zones sussed out ready to wire over to the texecom but there's one thing I'm not sure about. I have an 16 ohm speaker that acts as an internal siren and also the chime for door open alerts.

The speaker has a red and black wire connection. The pyronix manual shows these should be connected to SPK and the adjacent aux terminal. However the aux terminal isn't used . It looks like the speaker doesn't have its own wiring from the panel, instead it is shared with the keypad cable. 4 cores are connected to rs485 terminals for the keypad (+, -, D3, D4) and 5th core connected to the SPK terminal. This is a brown wire but I have check continuity and confirmed it goes to the black wire at the speaker. The red wire is connected to the + terminal on the rs485 block supplying power to the keypad also goes to the speakers red wire, again confirmed by continuity. The wires seem to branch off to the speaker somewhere within the walls.

On the 64w panel there are SPK + and - terminals. If I want to use this + terminal it means feeding a new wire to the speaker which isn't really ideal as I have solid walls. So my question is can I use the red wire as the + for both the keypad and the speaker as it is currently with the pyronix? Or do I need to run a new wire from the SPK+ terminal?

Thanks

think a picture of the wiring may help.

the speaker needs 12V and the negative speaker terminal to to make it sound.

so brown wire to the negative speaker terminal on the Texecom by the sounds of it and the red wire is already wired to 12V of the keypad?

Thanks for replying. I don't have access for a picture just now so I'll try to clarify. Current pyronix wiring:

4 cores of 6 core cable connected to rs485 for the keypad (+ - and data).
5th core (brown) connected to SPK.
6th core is not used.

At the speaker end the wires coming out of the wall are red and black, no brown. Black has confirmed continuity with the brown at panel SPK. Red has confirmed continuity with + at rs485. The manual indicates the speaker + should be connected to aux terminal next to the spk terminal but this is not how it has been done.

At the keypad there are 4 wires only. No joins and no SPK terminals or anything like that

This panel replaced an old panel several years ago and was also moved from the original position. I think the cable could have been extended seeing as there is no brown anywhere other than the panel end. I think the cable goes downstairs and then branches off to the keypad and the speaker.

Whatever has happened it is confirmed that the the speaker red wire shares the keypad + connection.

I just want to be sure that when installing the 64w that it is safe for me to connect this in the same way. So speaker - wire to SPK - terminal and the speaker + wire using the keypad + terminal at the panel. Or does the speaker + wire need to go to SPK+ terminal.

So in other words can the speaker + connect to any + terminal on the panel, it doesn't need to be SPK+? My concern is that if the speaker sounds on activation would this overload or cause any issue ath the panel or reduce power to the keypad.

you have it connected to a positive one side and the spk the other?

so just connect the black and brown to the speaker terminals, as that's what you say are connected to the speaker and somewhere there is a join.

Just got home and tested the panel. SPK+ has continuity with the keypad+ terminal. So yes I can use the existing wiring as is.

Thanks for your time
