I am building a large work-surface that will be used for serving and preparing food and collecting dirty dishes.

It will be made out of sheet board, and then tiled on top. The edges will be sealed with metal angle.

Which of these materials are suitable?
  • OSB2
  • OSB3
  • Softwood Plywood
  • Hardwood Plywood
  • Moisture Resistant MDF
It needs to be suitable for tiling, and not going to warp/blow.

Thanks for your help,
Paul.

P.S. Also, would any of these materials be suitable for making cupboard doors (beneath the counter).

tiled surfaces, and specifically the grout, are difficult to keep hygienically clean. Your edge trim will also harbour a dirty crevice.

Is this for a commercial kitchen? Stainless steel is usual.

Or a domestic one? Laminate.

I used large 600mm square floor tiles on ply base , no grout lines , siliconed edges as laid flush .
