Hi,

Looking for advice while in lockdown.

I have the similar appliance – thought it has been there for over 8 years so might be more halogen than LED – product number is 6775-5 (as the light bulb I have in stock show or are named halogen)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Searchligh...child=1&keywords=6775-5&qid=1588702886&sr=8-2

that appliance stop working a while ago, took it out and inside is the transformer which I believe could be off and need to be change. Put something else to the light on the ceiling to check if it was not the electric or interrupter and bulb was lighting.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/AU-RD105-3...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=RFHTM5M3D2N3JRM13V69

So question, is that easy to change the transformer to the appliance and risk free? ( I will make sure I turn the power out when putting the appliance back in.

Or should I buy a new appliance so to be safer?

Many thanks,

Keeping going with halogen is a dead end. They are being discontinued by the Gods of Brussels.

Two options
1: investigate converting to LED (not easy for that luminaire)
2: that fitting doesn't owe you anything. Time to buy a nice new LED fiting
I repaired one of those with 9 lamps a couple of years ago.
Daughter was getting through 10W G4 bulbs like they were going out of fashion.
SMPS was putting out a couple of volts too many. Replaced it and put 3W LEDs in.
Total cost around £30.

Thanks both for getting back to me -
additional question and please ignore my lack of knowledge - that link re halogen and LED was new discovery! lol

so my question if i was to replace the transformer with the amazon one on the link below:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/AU-RD105-3...&refRID=RFHTM5M3D2N3JRM13V69&tag=diynotcom-21

and replace the halogen bulb with LED like something like this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/GLIME-Repl...&qid=1588925131&sprefix=g4+led,aps,153&sr=8-7

would that work or not? or what are the risk?

Happy to get a new appliance / luminaire but if there is still life in that one, then there is no reason to buy something brand new is my initial thought.

Thanks,

Neither of the above will work. the Aurora transformer is (like the existing) made to work with larger halogen lamps. Read the spec. It needs AT LEAST a load of 35 watts. Your three LEDs will pull less than 10watts. You need a specific DRIVER designed to work with LED lamps.

The lamps you link to are G4 lamps. Your bases are what are ( commonly ) called MR16 bases. So they just won’t fit.

Im going to place a pedant warning here. Some idiot is going to post some unhelpful drivel about what MR actually stands for.
Ignore them. It’s pointless and will not help you.

The fitting I repaired was certainly G4 bulbs and looked exactly like OP's except there were 9 bulbs. I can't take pictures as daughter has moved and light stayed. However I fitted more of the same purchase of LEDs in some other lights for a friend. lockdown prevents me from taking pics but I'll try to get my friend to.

I think we need detailed pics of the bulbholder before we can offer further advice on replacements, however Taylors advice about the transformer is sound if the bulbs are going to be replaced.
