Hi, firstly I'll say I'm not particularly clued up when it comes to electrics so please excuse any stupidity!

Right, on to the problem... My bedroom light stopped working so I took it down and found the following (see image) the plastic cover over the blue wires coming from the transformer was scorched - I pulled it off with a set of pliers. I have circled the wires and remains of the plastic cover on the photo.

Is this a problem with the transformer and should I just buy a replacement or is it time to call in an electrician?

Thanks for any help! Paul.

It's more likely just a loose joint, not a transformer failure. Either solder + heatshrink or re-crimp. It's also possible that the plastic outer coating could have worn away, resulting in arcing to the casing and eventual melting of the joint.

cut the metal bit off, strip back the wires and put them in a terminal block..

eaglerise are not the best make out there, do a search here for an idea on how bad they are..

dont know if you have managed to source a replacement?
If he hasn't, and didn't manage to repair the old one, I expect he'll have replaced the light by now rather than have gone 5 months with no bedroom light hoping something would turn up.... :)
