travetine tiling

I have had my bathroom plasterboarded and i am having a tiler tile using travetine tiles. it is being half tiled and fully tiled in the cubicle. will the plasterboard support the tiles and the tiler assures me theres no need to tank if i do tank do you tank onto top of shower tray any advice please

Yes tank the shower area,1 meter up from tray,I normally tank before fitting the tray so it goes down behind it then plenty of silicone to seal where tray meets wall before tiling then silicone again when tiled.

will the plasterboard thats been skimmed support the weight of the tiles

A skimmed surface will take 20kg per sq meter,thats tiles,adhesive,grout etc.
Plasterboard with no skim can take upto 32kg per sqm
