Trimming Laminate

Hi,

I'm making laminated ply doors with the ply grain is exposed on the edges. However, in order to minimize the sharp edge of the laminate on the top and bottom I want to trim just the laminate at a 45 degree angle - just taking a tiny bit off.

I've seen lots of special trimming bits with bearings fitted and am wondering if this is best with a hand held router or if I should set up a Chamfer V groove cutter (45 degrees) on a router table and use the fence to moderate the amount it cuts off?

All the bits I can find specifically for trimming laminate have bearings and are 1/4" shank but this is too small for my table router. I can get a standard V groove cutter for the larger shank on the table but not sure if this is OK to use on laminate... why are there all the specialist trimming tools if you can use a normal V groove cutter??

you will get chipping out when cutting across the board if your not care full what are you cutting the ply with and what blade are you using
you will need the more expensive faced ply to get a decent internal structure without hollows
