Hi all,

I've recently became home owner, and the I'm facing the first fault in the flat :(

My shower unit trips the RCD when on hot water. I believe the problem is similar to the one described here: http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=168351

The unit might be 10 years old (instruction manual says Dec 2000, but I don't know if it was installed later as I don't have any receipt), is it worth paying 90£ for a Triton engineer to fix it, or is it better replacing the all lot?

If I go for a replacement, can I just buy any triton product, or do I need to go for Triton III? Is a plumber required or I can do it myself?

Sorry for the basic post, but I have very little DIY experience (just finished re-decorating and it was a fun experience after all), so any help/advice is very appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Nicola

Screwfix sell a Triton 8.5KW shower for £49.99 brand new, makes £90 to repair a ten year old unit assuming its the actual shower unit at fault a tad expensive.

Could well be a burnt cable or a faulty isolator switch rather than the shower itself.

@jj4091 I;ve now checked the resistance, and it seems the heating tank...
@streetlighter: it seems I need to plan a trip to the store :D. Do you think I will be able to fit it by myself?

Thanks

Nicola

Need to check the positions of the existing water and power inlets so the replacement will be suitable.
Also the circuit must be RCD protected and the cable of a suitable size for the length of run, installation method and current the shower uses.
I would recommend having a professional replace the shower, saying that if you have good DIY skills its easy enough.
