Trump Air Crash Press Conference

Is putting a (near) octogenarian, sub-intelligent narcissist with obvious cognitive decline considered a "diversity hire"?
Life's funny in many ways.

The Trump camp did all they could to highlight the fact Biden was no longer fit for office. However not sure if anyone here has noticed, you can also see a difference in Trump as he ages. Before you start, I'm NOT saying he's anywhere near the stage Biden was evidently at.

However, you can easily imagine if Trump was to decline at quite a noticeable rate over the coming years, his camp would undoubtedly do the same as Biden's i.e. assert 'nothing to see here, Donald's as sharp as he was 40 years ago, move along ...'

I've said it before : because Trump has no qualms about telling bare - faced lies, it's easier for him to just keep a stream of "consciousness" pouring out.
Often incoherent gobbledygook but, unlike Sleepy Joe, no pauses that draw attention.
Added to the fact that Trump has an almost messianic hold over his acolytes, his bullshoite is brushed over or flat - out refuted.

Edited for typos

he does indeed:

Scaramucci said Trump once told him:

"a billion people know who I am, half a billion hate my effing guts, but think of the possibilities on the other half a billion"

Timeline:

January 20: inauguration of Donald Trump
January 20: FAA director fired
January 21: Air Traffic Controller hiring frozen
January 22: Aviation Safety Advisory Committee disbanded
January 28: Buyout/retirement demand sent to existing employees
January 29: First American mid-air collision in 16 years

Trump: its all the fault of disabled people
It's only the first if you ignore all the US military collisions, they lost four coppers to mid air collisions in 2023 alone. Although they were probably doing more challenging flying than this case.

Apparently, the tower at the airport has been under staffed since 2023. 19 staff instead of 30! With controllers looking after both planes and helos when in normal circumstances they have a dedicated controller each.

Here is a good short video on what this Captain believes happened. Seems logical:

The way I interpreted it, was that the copter pilot was warned of the aircraft, within his vicinity, the copter pilot accepted the warning, yet seemed to turn directly into its path. My assumption was, that the copter pilot's attention, was focussed on the other aircraft, flying above, rather than the aircraft he actually flew into.

It's very easy to have your focus on the wrong danger, and miss the most imminent/crucial one. It happened to me, when I first began driving.....

Policeman, stood at the side of the road, wearing the white arm sleeves they used to wear when on traffic duty. Group of school kids around him, waiting to cross the road, as I drove along. My attention was fully focussed on the PC, thinking I was being clever, expecting him to step out and stop the traffic. What I failed to notice, was their teacher step out, followed by the kids. I had to do an emergency stop, to avoid hitting them. Tunnel attention, can be very risky - lesson learned.

The helicopter was on a training flight, and it's assumed the pilot misread the instruction to watch for the incoming flight as he flew behind it, and picked the wrong plane out of the sky. He was wearing night vision goggles and that may be a factor in his miss perception. They've recovered the flight recorders, so more details will clarify their final moments. They probably never knew what hit 'em.

That, more or less, agrees with what I suggested.

That's a bit of a stretch. There are 5 classes of airspace in the UK, London is class A being the most strictly regulated. In addition to PPL and night rating IFR is required, and even then you need to apply for a zone transit. It's under one of the main flight paths to Heathrow where the descent angle is usually 3%. It can be done, but even the most advanced PPL's would baulk at the idea.
It's very common indeed. It's a well used aerial roadway through London. And the glideslope is 3 degrees btw, not 3%. Applying for 'a zone transit' is a radio call. I'm a gasher at diy, Filly, but I have been an aircrew professional, and have transitted the helilanes many times.

There's no doubt Trump was wrong to make these assertions so early on and without any evidence, if nothing else showing zero empathy for the victims and their families.

However Trump, like many others in politics etc, know exactly what they're doing. They say something, so it's already out there. It will be absorbed as factual by those who want to believe the assertion. Even if it later transpires the assertion has been completely baseless, it's too late, the intention of the original assertion has already had the desired effect.

Not the same but it's a bit like a newspaper printing a story on the front page. Later found out to be false, so they print an apology ... in a small paragraph on page 12.
And it just shows how dangerous he is.

Some people will believe him

Did you ever notice a plasterer waving frantically at you?

The air traffic controller will no doubt be feeling some blame, but made far worse by Trump's comments.. The ATC clearly stated 'pass behind' to the copter pilot.

The over worked air controller because of understaffing you mean ?

Blame has already been apportioned, regardless of what actual facts are found at the investigation

Trump is just stoking the fire. Just like happened in Southport.

Hope you Trump supporters understand how bad he has been with this incident.

Of course it has. Do you think that after a mid air collision causing over 60 deaths the controller should be allowed to return to work the next day as if nothing has happened pending an investigation?
