In reality, we (as in most of us on here and elsewhere) will never know if lasting peace in those regions has been achieved.

Why?

Because, certainly by my measure, genuine lasting peace can only be considered a thing if there's been peace for decades. And most of us won't be here to know whether they've achieved it or not.

Like you, I have my doubts, however would obviously be more than happy to be proved wrong.
