two speed switch

I could use Rockys special mk switch, but it wouldn't change the layout.
Yes it would.

2-gang grid (fuse & centre-off switch) where you have the FCU, cable vertically to ceiling void or to 150mm zone, then along to directly above the fan and then vertically down. Cables thus all compliantly concealed and only one accessory on the wall, not 3...

It is.

Good job you spotted that, or when the council came to check the work (assuming the OP is in England or Wales) they'd have failed it....

Ban/Stargazer,
really appreciate your comments.
I don't understand how the cooker cable isn't in a safe zone. Doesn't the flex outlet plate behind the cooker classify as an accessory? and therefore horizontally left or right, and vertically up or down from this point would be a permissable zone?
That aside, Bans routing idea is clearly superior to what I was ending up with, but I was assuming the bit from the fan up to the ceiling would have to be surface mounted (eg in plastic trunking) as it isn't in a safe zone.
Can you experts point me in the right direction?

ouch!!
But, sort of,,, why not? No primary sheathing of conductor in cable?

As it is used and recognised as a cpc, it should never be used for any other purpose.

Imagine someone comes along and breaks into that cable in order to connect to the cpc.....BANG!

I don't think doglegs are permitted, although the cable is always in a compliant zone, so maybe.

Vertical/horizontal to appliances is also OK.

This is an interesting point (or am I just sad :D )
Any more opinions on whether or not Reg’s dog leg is within the permitted zones? Is Reg's dog leg compliant per se?

They are in the safe zones. Look at the wiki diagram & see.

Thanks Secure, and sorry for worrying you unnecessarily Reg.
Your dog leg is within the permitted zones .

No need to apologise, sometimes amid all the intricate details the simplest bits get overlooked, so it's always worth a double check. I read all I could find, and the bit about cables in "straight" runs, I guess is to stop people creating a sinusoidal wave form with their cables, even within the 150mm zone. Also if dog legs weren't permitted, there'd be mention somewhere. But I did check the bend radius, and it's bigger than you'd probably guess with 6mm cable.
Thanks again all. :)
