Ukraine counter offensive

I'm not at all convinced nuclear will be unleashed. If it is, there will be retaliations and that will be the end of it all.

There must be some sane people high up in Putin's crowd who would veto it.
Hopefully they don't fall out of any windows

Define an illegal invasion.?
"an act by the military power of one country to penetrate or invade the territory of another with the object of permanently or temporarily occupying and taking control over such territory."

If I recall correctly ??? All these borders were drawn up / agreed with Yeltsin who was probably boozed up at the time

A sort of nod and a wink type caper over vodka and sandwiches in some smoke filled room :ROFLMAO:

Perhaps the word probably is stretching it

He was def boozed up

It seems South Africa has been v. naughty...

The US ambassador, Reuben Brigety, said on Thursday that Washington was confident weapons and ammunition had been loaded on a Russian freighter that docked at a Cape Town naval base. The Lady R, a cargo vessel under western sanctions flying a Russian flag, docked at South Africa’s largest naval base in December, officially to offload an old order of ammunition. But Brigety said intelligence showed weaponry was loaded on to the vessel before it headed back to Russia.

The explosive remarks drew an angry response from President Cyril Ramaphosa, who did not deny the charge but said a retired judge would lead an investigation into it. They were also seized on by the Kremlin, which on Friday said the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, had agreed to deepen ties with Ramaphosa.
South Africa has been walking a diplomatic tightrope over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which it has refused to condemn, saying it prefers dialogue to end the war.

Storm shadow is already in use on strikes in Lugansk.

In other news Russia's air defence appear to have shot down three aircraft in the last day or so. Two helicopters and one Jet. All believed to be Russian.

What if the territory has a majority population who speak the invaders language, follow their customs and uphold their traditions; who clearly state their intention to continue their way of life despite the country in which they live will not allow them to do so, then blockade those regions by force?

The independence vote in 1991 was clear, except in Crimea which did also get a majority in favour.

Vlad the invader decided in 2014 that he didn't like the way Ukraine was heading so sent the troops in. The notion that the occupied regions want closer ties with Russia is not as clear cut as some think.

You could also argue that Putin read the runes in 2014.
