Onetap, if you are not CORGI registered then why are you apparently intending to be going out fixing gas leaks?

blimey agile its because transco dont fix leaks upstream from their meters (which they dont do) and all RGI's are incompetant fools

:)

Have you been drinking tonight?

as it happens I have not and was being sarcastic. if he wants to endanger himself and others (if he isnt competant) then let him

:)

If leak is big enough to bubble it`s big enough to show on a gauge..

Namsag is Gasman backwards.

You work for British Gas, don't you?
You're not very good at your job, are you?

You cannot distinguish small movements (say less than 0.1" wg ) of a water column within a 2 minute test. The leak will produce a discernible pressure loss if left for long enough, but there is then a risk that temperature changes may affect the reading. An accurate digital pressure gauge will show smaller leaks.

How can anyone justify slagging RGI`s when they ignore the basics .."Any smell of gas no matter how small a drop is a instant turn off untill fixed".

Not boasting about finding it then left for months and probably getting worse.

I'm not slagging RGIs and I'm not boasting. Anyone with a grain of competence could have found this leak. The question is, why is it leaking?

The other question, which no-one has answered, is what can we realistically expect Corgi to do if this was reported?

If I embark on the alternative route of;

i) employing another RGI to test, report and fix;

ii) report it to Corgi,

and iii) issue a small claims summons against the first RGI and a witness summons on the second;

then, will Corgi take any disciplinary action and will I recover my money? Bear in mind that another local RGI, selected at random, will probably be known to the first.

Or, do I just fix it and put it down to experience?

He does not sound very competent!

I hope he has got his own full time job!

one dont forget the permissable movement as per regs allows for temp fluctuations

anyway this is desending into yet another boring slanging match

one you are wrong and you know it

I am done

Discernable drop is >0.25mbar. Allowance for electronic gauge is 0.3 mbar due to the accuracy of the equipment.

Because Tony;

a) you don't have to be Corgi registered (that is, if you're not doing it for any payment) but you do have to be competent (as you know).

b) the approved Corgi-registered route has been tried, twice, and it hasn't achieved the required result.

c) I want it fixed, preferably with the minimum amount of grief.

That is a false statement.

Discernable drop is >0.25mbar.

0.1" wg = (0.1 x 25.4 x 10^-3) m wg = 0.00254m wg

= (0.00254 x 9.81 x 1000) Pa = 24.917 Pa = 0.000249 Bar = 0.249 mBar.

So we agree. I was right, despite not being in the club? Surely not?

Wouldn't that depend on the accuracy of the meter that you have available?

Yes Onetap I am compertent and to which question would you like an answer :?:

I'm not suggesting you're not, but I fear I'm starting to have doubts about the bloke who installed this hob.

The questions are above.
