unknown mixer tap part

Hi, got a new kitchen monbloc mixer tap with flexible hose, came with a part I\\\'m unsure of it\\\'s purpose. It looks like a metal ball/clamp cut in half with groves for a pipe/hose to run through it. It seems to fit around the hose and both parts screw together but no fittings to fix to anything else - does it work as a limiter or stop on pulling out the hose? or am I way off the mark?

Actually your a little off the mark, it does act as a stop to deter you from going too far with it but also it's a weight to help pull the hose back into the tap when you let go of it.... who'd of thought!!!
