Hi everyone,

Our electrician has recently replaced and added a couple of sockets in our conservatory, he has said that this is non notifiable work so won't be issued a certificate. He has stated that as part of the works he has to change the MCB in the c/u to an RCD. Is this correct?

many thanks

Yes, all new sockets have to be covered by an RCD.

If he is changing an MCB, it will be an RCBO which combines the functions of an MCB (overcurrent) and RCD (earth leakage detection for personal protection).

True, as it is an extension of an existing circuit, this work is not notifiable.
However, the work must be tested and a Minor Works Certificate provided.
The cert will include the tripping characteristics of me new RCD/RCBO. It is your assurance that the work complies with the relevant regulations.
