I recently upgraded from a 1/4 to 1/2 router.

I've never broke a router cutter in the last 8 years, but I just broke two Trend 5mm straight cutters in the space of half hour!!!

I'm cutting 18mm good quality marine ply, but I had cut the same with the old 1/4 with no problems.

Am I pushing too hard? (Don't think so)
Too fast/slow speed
Too deep passes? ...about 5-7mm at a time

Any advice.... It's almost like the more powerful motor is 'twisting' the bit in two...?

Cheers

ive broken a few of the thinner 1s in my time using my festo 1/4 and these have been good makes i:e trend etc.
i put this down too maybe pushing to hard or making to deeper cuts in 1 go.
try using the same bit but reduce the depth of cut by half and see what happens?

AS Gregers says, and extra weight of a big router its a lot of purchase on a small cutter throw in vibration, heat
and the glue lines in ply are very abhrasive
