Urban myths

Ive stopped quite a few "engineers" from turning off major factorys/consumers and even whole villiages due to them not knowing exactly what they are doing, Even, stopped a so called "engineer" from re-energising an 11kv Overhead line circuit WHILST THE LINESMAN WERE STILL WORKING ON IT, I dont know about the domestic and commercial game that most of you chaps on here seem to specialize in, but on the power distribution side of things, the tendency is to promote people with little or no experience of actually working on the system to positions way above their station, They may have all the qualifications, but no actual experience of how systems work and operate............which at any level of the Electricity industry is DANGEROUS, so as you fellows have posted on here, it pays to watch your back!!!

Thats contract engineers for you... not long before I got made redundant from the electricity board I saw exactly the same thing and had to step in. Showing them a schematic diagram was the worst bit as they didnt understand a thing!

Here's a really good one - a woman told me she thought an electrician could wire up a heating system. Had me in stitches.
Obviously I told her,
"No, just lights and things that go on and off, dear".

Perhaps I should stick to the plumbing forum?

and why is that funny?

any electrician can wire a fused spur to a boiler and the controlls and stats, along with any ascociated 3 port valves and things..

As long as he knows how the 'Heating Engineer' has designed the system to work on larger, more complex systems

I think your find the post was suggesting wiring rads, rather that plumbing them :D

So the old girl thought radiators are electrically powered, which is funny (in a sad sort of way)

By "heating system" it could be gas/oil or electric ie Storage Heaters
