USB Sockets

One of my USB sockets has failed again. This is a MK socket with two USB-A sockets in it. The mains sockets are fine, but the USB sockets seem to fail after about a year.

We just use the USB socket for charging phones.

Are there any better makes of USB socket?

Or am I doing something wrong here?

MK are usually fairly decent quality as long as you steer clear of the economy ranges, although they have gradually gone downhill since the 80s.

I would take them back and keep swapping them out.

Why do you persist in continuing to use the expensive cheap c r a p that MK now is. I've not had a failure yet with the (I assume) BG/LAP I have in service.

Personally I only use MK is specified/insisted on.

MK has been expensive crap for quite a number of years.
They often look good though and that is what sells them rather than the fairly decent comparable quality of the say 60s and 70s.
oh and the shutter mechanism on socket outlets that requires L and N to be applied simultaneously, one nice safety aspect that is above the standard asked for in BS.
But they are still crap.

YOU might think so
BUT
USB-A is the Basic Standard from which all other USB connectors developed.

The main advantage of USB-C is that the Plug can be inserted into the Socket in two orientations - because of multiple Top and Bottom connections.

Of course, a good "plug in adaptor" should work in any Socket Outlet (for which it was designed)
BUT
it will take up the space of the Socket Outlet while doing so.

However, while some products imported from a certain country maybe "Crap",
many are "World Class" and are used by your "Local Manufactures" (under their own "Brand Names".)

I would urge anyone using USB "Power Supplies" of any type to obtain a device such as https://www.aliexpress.com/item/100...ist_main.173.efa61802JqtJfY#nav-specification
which checks the Voltage actually being supplied and can monitor the current usage.

I would never "Plug In" a USB connection into any USB "Supply" until I had tested that it was within "specifications",
by using such a cheap imported quality item, such as this.

USB "Supplies", converting 230 V AC to (about) 5 V DC include Electrolytic Capacitors,
which do have a limited life - although that should exceed 10 Years

Why do consider that a USB-C connector
would "wear the phone battery out quicker"
than a USB-A connector, supplying the same Voltage?

Because USB-C standard, through cable negotiation, supports extended minimum capability of 20volt/3amp up to 48volt/5amp....

That's not in the original USB-A standard. So a phone that is fast charged (facilitated by USB-C) might have a reduced capacity battery

I have an MK USB A one which I think are around 2A. 10W

I also have some MK fast charge ones, with A & C on them which can kick out 25W?

But I prefer to use a plug in 5W to slow charge

MK also did some ones with USB A&C on them, but not fast charge. I don't have one of them sadly

USB-C is also damaging some devices by supplying a too high voltage.
