Hello, experts.

We have a Vaillant boiler, and I think that it needs attention. (In any case, it's due for a service in a week or two.) I was trying to find a "Vaillant Approved" heating engineer. I have no doubt that there are lots of these, but I am very careful about lots of things when choosing a tradesman, and today, I asked for a call-back from a heating engineer that, although GasSafe registered, does not state that he is "Vaillant Approved". My question is: Is it very important, in a material way, that a Vaillant boiler be serviced by a "Vaillant Approved" engineer? I mean, if the tradesman is well-experienced and honest but not Vailant-trained, would he be competent to service a Vaillant boiler? I am sure that Vaillant want to make sure that tradesmen know their boilers as intimately as possible, but they would, wouldn't they, as a matter of business sense? From the customer's point of view, I should like to know how important that qualification would be if one could not find a Vaillant-trained engineer.
Thanks in advance, for any replies.

Vaillant approval just means they've been on one of their tea-and-cakes sales & marketing days. Just find yourself a well-respected boiler engineer who is familiar with Vaillant boilers

You need to differentiate between "installers" who just fit boxes on the wall but know little about what is inside.

And boiler engineers who specialise in fault repairing and servicing and are very familiar with how they work.

Vaillant want to sell boilers and their courses are primarily to encourage people to choose and fit their boilers.

What about installers that service and repair, and whom may be have been on the additional training arrive manufacturers offer?

Tony, please stop generalising and pontificating. It's getting frustrating.

Dan, after recent scare, are you firing on all cylinders now?:)

I have had a Vaillant ecotec (2012 on) for 3 yrs now.
My long standing and reliable gas service engineer does not have a clue how to set it to max and min outputs - I do it for him every year.
So, if you are a first time Vaillant owner I recommend you ask the service engineer to confirm he works on Vaillant boilers regularly.

So he's reliable, but not very intelligent?

I don't think that intelligence is involved.

Just knowledge!

But it does not seen very intelligent for someone working on boilers to allegedly not know or be willing to look up what is needed.

Well when you have a Vaillant Service engineer saying he fits Ideal boilers then really what does it all mean?

how has your service engineer become reliable and long standing when he doesn't know how to set min & max  .

Nothing special about vallant boilers, any good engineer should be able to sort a good service or repair easily.
