Vaillant Ecotec Exclusive

Realistically a new combi will save you around 10-12%, not the 1/3rd the books bang on about.

Thanks Dave

Did you note the boiler model number.? Is it roughly ten years old.?

Could a wireless thermostat be installed to this boiler.

Thanks

Its probably about 10-13 years old.

A room stat should be on your purchase list !

It seems you already have a very energy efficient house and 10-12% improvement is not worth changing a boiler to achieve.

Change it when it next has a serious fault like the diverter valve.

My favourite boiler calculator  says that you need a 10kW boiler for your central heating. That includes an allowance for the pipes, which contribute to the heating except when they are under the ground floor.

You mentioned the Ecotec exclusive, which is intended for "larger properties". The problem with that boiler, for you property is that the heating output is much too large for your house (10.2-27kW for the 832). this means you boiler will be working all the time in on/off mode for central heating. It is one of the disadvantages of combi boilers that they frequently do not modulate low enough on the heating side.

When you do change your boiler, have a look at the Remeha range. The Avanta combis will all modulate down to 6kW, which would be ideal for your needs.

Thanks Dave, Kevplumb, Tony and D hailsham for all the good advice. You have saved me a fortune

What would be a good thermostat/time controller to have installed with my boiler. Would a wireless one be compatable.?

Thanks in advance.

What existing time and temperature controls do you have and are they built-in to the boiler?

A wireless programmable thermostat should be compatible. Honeywell are very good (CM921 or CM927).

There is a myson microtimer digital time clock located the side of the boiler and the only temperature control we have is built into the boiler.

Thanks D Hailsham i apperciate the advice.

If only you lived in West Yorkshire.

Personally I would avoid the exclusive like the plague.

Is this down to bad experiances?

I didnt think they were much different to the plus's.

Ive been fitting quite a few for landlords recently.

Doh! been fitting pros not exclusives

Replacing the microtimer with a programmable thermostat will be easy. If you use a wireless version it will be even easier as you will not have to run a cable from the boiler to the thermostat location, usually in the hall or living room.

The Honeywell CM907 (wired) or CM927 (wireless) are very good. You can buy them new on Ebay.

Do you want to do this yourself, or are you getting someone else?

Thanks D.H for the advice.

Yes had a quick look on ebay and saw the 927 one. Regarding getting someone in to fit it, i think i might.? I am competent when it comes to basice house electrics. How hard are they fit.? But if you are fitting them on regular basis, you will find it easy. What would i be looking at cost wise for one fitting.?

Thanks

Dale

Where in Yorkshire are you mate?

I only ask because with the boiler you have I beleive it would now be illegal for you to take the cover off to do this yourself anyway (Sure this is now legislation).
Get a decent local guy in to drain down the system do your TRV's, Service boiler and fit you your new stat at the same time.
If your near enough (Im in Hull but work all the way up to Castleford) then i will quite happily send you a quote.

Hello mate

I live in South Elmsall near Pontefract. its about 15mins from M62/A1 junction., south bound. That would be great if you could do that. Nice 1

Dale

well to be honest with you mate, they are all foooked. Ahem. Its freezing upstairs especially. as stated in an earlier post i had Bumford Heating Ltd round on tuesday. Guy measured rads etc, fecked off and never rang ne back with a price. They must have too much work on.!!!!

BG were supposed to come on Wednesday, didnt turn up the ****s. So they f off now.

Eight trv's in total. I think i would go for a wireless one. As advised the honeywell cm927 on ebay is nearly half the price of some on tintertweb plumbing suppliers, 65 quid posted.

Dont suppose you do power flushing too do you.?

If you could give me an idea on the price to do each job individually, and one to do the lot. That would be great mate. Im only working part time now, as of this week and money is tight so i might have to get things done seperately. Iknow its a no brainer that the trv's and room stat would need doing together so.

Cheers mate will it be a govie.?
