Veritas r8 (pre 2000) with solid red light

Hi,

My first post (so please be kind if I have missed something)

I have been through the numerous veritas posts here and cannot find the answer to my question. Sorry if I have overlooked as there are a few.

All working find with a solid green light on control panel. New kitchen installed and electrics had to go off. Now flashing red light (no mains) but when turned back on no green light only solid red.

Replaced battery. Still solid red but noticed strobe no working. Replaced bell box and still solid red.

The keypad all ok with the tamper light not on.

We can set and unset fine and alarm working as normal but why no green light? Something is wrong but I am not sure what. Cannot see reference to it in installation manual. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Is that because it never had a green light in the first place ? Some versions had a red led not a green one......

Thank you but mine definitely had a green led before this problem - indeed if I disconnected the main and battery and then just connect battery, for a split second it starts green and then changes to red.

Older panels had a red LED later ones were Green.

I have never seen or noticed ones that changed colour. Or seen any reference to it in the manuals.

Thank you. This was installed in 1998. I guess that if the alarm is functioning correctly then I will just have to accept that all ok. Appreciate replies. Cheers

They are just a mains applied indicator. Steady means healthy mains, flashing means no mains just battery

The only thing that crossed my mind is if it was an old r8 plus ? Did that have an indicator for line fault ? Just a thought.

Not that I am aware of

Also don't think the R8 Plus was about in 1998

It was and it's a real odd ball manual , half old veritas and half new veritas some of the options are different, if you ask at texecom most of the tec staff haven't a clue about it.

I installed quite a few Veritas 8's and R8's around that time but don't recall fitting any R8 Plus. Must have kept things "simple" in those days.

Just had a look at manual no eol resistors for a start ! It's the old black with white edge manual , can't see a date on it either....

There are some strange things with the veritas model wise

00 panels
prog panels

theres a cross over in functions, between panels, from memory so dont hold me to it.

There are two main variants of the early prog panels so some options are like the old 00 panels around/ upto 1996/7 the prog panels 1997/1998 upto present.

Programming wise in general terms
00 panels are alike
prog panels are alike
digitas panels are like r8+/ excel with a built in communicator rather than 8 outputs like the r8 plus and excel there are two variants from memory with slightly different coms options.

the latest excel and r8 plus can use 4k7 2k2 instead of 22k and 10k for eol but need an led keypad to change options in menu 30

Texecom have manuals for most of these but some are manky scanned in copies, however some if the variants they didnt appear to have the manuals for last time I requested them.

If anyone hss good copies of the old manual
I would be interested in some good scanned copies

I definitely have an R8 but not the compact. All pics on internet confirm.

Re installation manual, I may be able to help you here. Try googling " Veritas-8-R8-Compact pre2000 ". The first link will be to the PDF.

Any problems then let me know.

The system works suggesting all is well..

I am not sure what else to say.

The panels and keypads have changed slighlty the changes may not be documented in the manual on every possability in general major revisions will have an updated manual.

The panels available can be seen at the back of the manuals from memory with a check list of features comparing the units against each other.

I have copies of the manuals from Texecom the worst manuals are old scanned in manuals and some of these are that bad they are diffcult to read pre 1998 manual I think for the 00 panel.

There is a free android app with the veritas manuals, dont think its 100% complete mind.
