Vintage toilet - not draining quickly

Hi,
I've bought and fitted a vintage toilet for downstairs WC.
It's all plumbed in, fills ok, connected to waste pipes in corner of the room. I've replaced the internal filling mechanism and flush with brand new kit, and have no issues with speed of fill etc.
However, when I flush, it fills up the bowl and then fairly slowly exits. There's no whoosh of waste disappearing, meaning solids and even loo roll doesn't really go. It takes a few goes to get rid of anything.
I have added a durco valve, even raised the toilet up on a plinth thinking there wasn't enough of a fall. I wondered if anyone could advise before I scrap the toilet completely and get a brand new one?
Is it the lack of fall out the back?
Thank you in advance!

Likely a blockage in the drain/manhole. Remove the air admittance valve (Durgo) and visually inspect from above, will probably fill the pipe when flushed.

The behaviour you describe is common with a syphonic WC that lacks the special valve. Take some photos of the pan from the side and the shape of the waterway may be visible

But yes, I agree, pull the Durgo off.

Does the concertina type pan connector not extend all the way to the loo, thus doing away with the second pan con’?

Secondhand, you mean.

Before you fitted this, was the previous toilet flushing and draining as expected? Was it connected to the soil pipe using the same parts in the pictures? If not, what else was changed at the same time?

On the other hand, maybe there’s a problem with the WC and that’s why it was taken out in the first place?

In the unlikely event that it is a syphonic WC (they are no longer sold in UK) they are very highly prized by people who know about them

It does sound like a syphonic issue. I’ve not seen one for years. I’ve still got some parts on the van for them.

Good shout!!

I need to get a spare throat valve. Perhaps we can make a deal?

Is the Aav 200mm above the highest trap ? “I think that’s the regs”

If the toilet turns out to be ok, I’d try raising the soil pipe. Probably not a good idea to remove the aav
