Don't panic, if like me, you get a call from a number beginning 05601...

I thought, where the heck is that from??

It is a new prefix code for BT's VOIP numbers.

I thought BT used a standard number for the VOIP lines? I know someone with the VOIP service and that daft home hub which costs £5 extra a month  . Both her numbers are 01226, Barnsley.

Don't know if it the same as the other VIOP services where you can pick any area code you like but you may pay extra for it? I have my voip through a firm called VOIPtalk and costs about £3 per month for the additional UK 01229 number.

If you use VOIP on cable broadband, do you still have to pay a phone line rental to the cable provider?

I can't see why you should, it is only data going down the line at the end of the day. You may need to pay someone if you want to call landline numbers.
