Waitrose, Sainsbury or Aldi?

Booths for me, only letting a handful in, lots of stock & free newspapers at weekends

Booths is a brilliant supermarket chain. Their buildings are stunning, no expense spared affairs; I don't mind paying that bit extra to shop there, and I've visited nearly all of them. Penrith is a favourite - sitting upstairs in the restaurant looking over to Cross Fell, wow!

Not necessarily. I don't mind going into pleasant supermarkets rather than having to tolerate the free-for-all utilitarian Aldi types. Its not a snob thing either. The meat at Aldi, especially the fresh chicken is top notch and I would go there to shop and leave. I'm not much of a shopper but if I was say on me hols and just wanted to mooch about browsing, then I wouldn't want it to be an unpleasant experience.
There is a supermarket in Ischgl (Mpreis) where all the products appear to be shiny - almost polished. Spacious and pleasant. I found the astro turf on the outside walls a bit weird though. I think it was Ischgl councils attempt at blending in a boxy Austro-city style building with the cuckoo clock chalets.

Now we've had a philosophy which has worked over the years.

Never get into who had the extra beer or side dish in the restaurant.
Or who bought one more round in the pub.
Share the bills equally, unless someone regularly takes the p iss.

Because if you think about it, over time it all works out pretty even.
And if you were all living together as we are 'virtually' at the moment we would be sharing anyway.
Plus it saves a lot of arguments!
(Excessive demands for caviar and Dom Pérignon excluded from this theory)

Of course it only works with a close family and true friends!

That's precisely what our game play was at work when we went out for a curry. Bill split equally, no questions asked if say someone had a king prawn whatever and someone else had a vegetable whatever.

Same philosophy, over time probably works out pretty evenly and pointless spoiling a lunch by squabbling over a couple of quid.

The taking the pi55 rule also applied.

I've been to a couple of Booths and they're just like Waitrose imo, same sort of food and price. The one in Ilkley was bad though, messy and an oppressive building.

And it has my octogenarian parents in it every week, daft, irresponsible sods that they are.
