WallPlugs confused

Should be getting a 37” plasma and wall mount bracket early next week.

Will be mounting onto plasterboard dab and dotted onto a brick wall. So will be drilling though the plasterboard and into the brick. Since it will be quite heavy an assuming that I need something a tad stronger than normal plastic rawlplugs but not sure what for my particular application.

The mount is quite thin so my at a later date need to space the bracket away from the wall to bring the screen further out.. Thus the blots will need to be capable of being replaced with much longer ones.

Had a look at some metal fixings in Wicks but not a clue as to how they work and whether the bolt can be changed nor indeed how long they should be. Should they be just long enough to finish flush with the brick and have a longer bolt or should the fixing be longer and finish flush with the plasterboard.

Any advice please

me and a couple of my mates could hang off a 4"-12 screw without it pulling out of the wall, all you need to fix is a tele.

frame fixing may meet your needs assuming your only talking up to 2 inches

i suspect you want it farther away

so what distance from the wall do you think you will require

If it ever does require moving forward then doubt that it would be any more than 2" most likely less but certainly no more than 4”.

Its unlikely I will need to mount it forward but would rather cover all bases just in case.

the trouble is threaded options are fixed
as in you can not just easily remove a thread and replace with another length unless your talking expensive resin anchors

although you could replace a 2" no 10 screw with a 4" and a 2" spacer


you could also go for the option of securing battons or wooden back plates and affix to them

and how a new product has virtually sporned an industry, with the brackets.(£150 in dixons for what?!!!!!) How much weight is in a kitchen wall cupboard full of tins or crockery? im with noseall, as long as you get a decent fixing in the wall it will be fine.

Never used them but from what I saw did feel that this was the case so plastic plugs it is then. It’s just that in the past I have had a couple of those, which seemed sound at the time of fixing, work loose over a period of some years. Not sure why, but for that reason was looking for something that I felt would be more substantial.

I couldn’t agree more. Personally I don’t even want a plasma screen and would prefer to get a proper telly (CRT). But seems you just can’t get them any more and flat panels are effectively being forced on the consumer. In a lot of cases by means of conning the consumer by only showing HD material, which in the majority of cases they will never be able to view when they get it home as they will only have SD material which can look utter crap on a flat panel.

With regard to the bracket, that used to be the case before they introduced standard fixing spacing. Now you can get brackets as cheap as £15. Whether the average consumer would ever know this and just buy what the sales person suggests is another mater.

Hey Masona, Those Universal Spacer Screws are a fantastic tip.
They are just what I have been looking for. I have always constructed a similar design by using long screws and spacers made from tube or a pile of washers. These Universal thingies are the 'Biz'.
I even sent for a free sample.
