Wardrobe door fasteners...advice needed please

Hi All,

25 years ago we had a chap make some wardrobe doors and carcass for my daughters bedroom. The doors are around 2m tall by 0.6m wide each and are secured to the carcass by 4 cabinet (100mm) hinges per door. Over the years the doors have warped slightly and the hinges moved. As I'm decorating the room, I want to repaint the doors but have noticed that none of them (there are 5 doors in total) close and stay closed which may be caused by a combination of warping slightly and hinge setting issues so I'm looking for some kind of push to close catch I can use that can hold the doors closed. Can anyone recommend something?

Can't you use mag catches?

The following can be adjusted by rotating the the round magnet.

No. Mags are nowhere near strong enough. The doors are quite heavy and as they are warped a little need something quite strong to hold them closed.

How thick are the doors? 35mm?

If so, I think you might need to adjust the hinges (probably the two middle hinges). You can use superglue and matches to plug the old holes in the frame and then drive in new screws. Check to see if the frame or door has warped.

The doors are around 19mm thick. I would say without checking in too much detail that the doors have warped slightly but not to the extent that if I push them closed and hold my hand there that they close all the way. Just need something beefy enough to hold them closed that's easy to open too!. Pic below (before painting!)

19mm thick and 100mm hinges? I might be wrong but they are often about 30mm deep. Meaning that they could not be used on 19mm doors

I cannot see a single hinge knuckle.

Can you take a photo of the door hinge when open?

I think you might have 35mm cup hole "kitchen" cabinet fittings, If so, it is gonna be much easier to sort out.

It will fix the problems, springs in 25 year old hinges will have failed many years ago .

I took the doors off earlier to gain access to a screw going into the ceiling. Wish I didn't. All the doors are now out of skew and I'm too stupid to work it out.

Do as Foxhole has suggested "he is right you know" the hinges will be past there best.

Buy blum soft close concealed 110 degree hinges. You can buy them on tradehinges.co.uk at sniff compared to other outlets.

With the new hinges once you have got used to what screw on them does what, you should be able to get some of the twist out, but you can use double ball catch latches to hold the doors if not.

Soft close seems a lot more expensive. Really don't want to spend like £100 or more on hinges. Do Blum do a non-soft close alternative?
