Hi All, I want to move my washing machine to the utility room and put a dish washer in it's place in the kitchen.
The problem, as can hopefully be seen on the attached image, is that the waste pipe will have to run under the door frame on the side door. This has it's own issues to get it neat etc, but the more important issue is that the height of the bottom of the door is only about 100mm above the height of the drain which is about 5m away, giving a gradient of 1mm in 50mm.
My other half insists she wants it in the utility room so my question is, Is this very shallow fall for the waste pipe a problem, and if so, can anyone think of another way to sort the waste pipe issue without resorting to putting the washing machine next to the fridge?

Thanks,

Ollie

Apart from not having the correct fall, the waste pipe going under the door frame will cause the pipework to hold water and debris which is likely to freeze in the coming weeks/months.

I realise that the fall is not ideal, and would still be able to have a fall as it goes under the door frame as the door is 15cm higher than the ground below.
Is there a recommended or required fall for a washing machine waste pipe?

Ollie

Problem as Andy has already said is the fall, and possible issues with waste blocking and/or freezing. First sign of a problem will be when machine discharges and the waste water erupts from the standpipe all over the floor. If you're not there when it happens then could be quite a lot of water....

Is there an underground drain or W.C. anywhere in the vicinity or proposed new site for the washing machine?

Using a 40mm plastic drain pipe I'd give it a try.....obviously with that limited fall its not ideal, but if you can prevent any freezing situation I reckon it would work.
If it does freeze, then listen to Hugh....it would over flow big time!
John :)
