Water hammer on shared main

Wondered if was maybe a loose jumper or something in someone's stop tap. When the water hammer starts at night it's constant. Not something that stops when you open or close a tap

If you think that, then try turning a tap on in your house, see if the noise disappears.
 
Next door did mention they get a humming sound from there pressure reducing valve at night. Could be this? Or it could be humming as getting the buzzing coming down the mains from another house

Ask them to turn off their supply at night, at the stop tap, as a trial.
 
Is it something a pressure reducing valve could cause. Like the diaphragm is bouncing up and down in it
