Anyway, seems a bit single use to me, and I will probably run out of tarpaulin to tape. So is there another tape, more multi functional?

I've never tried it on vinyl, but caberfix clear tape is sticky stuff, it has a paper backing you peel off

Nothing sticks to it, that's why they stitch it and/or weld it.

I use duck tape and it's fine.
Make sure it's not room temperature though like all tapes. Using cold out the shed or van won't work

Masking and many tapes are made to use at 20c.
Got mine in box and never leave in van in summer or winter.

Cold tape has little stick

I used that too yesterday. This morning it was unstuck.

Edit. I see you wrote duck, and I read duct. Did you mean duck or duct? I meant duct not duck. Some people say duct instead of duck or duck instead of duct.
