What are the standard centres for spindles on a landing?

hi, when i done the spindles on my own staircase i was told to make the spacing no larger than a tennis ball would fit through.

sound advice if you have little kids and looks good as well.

no standard as its" x" number of spindles evenly spaced

the regs state
a sphere 100mm accross must not fit through any gap in the banisters or stairs

i was always lead to believe it was 95mm(on the level),this is to stop a child getting there head stuck/forcing themselves through the gap.

If this is your own house, you can have one at each end and a 3m gap if you like ;)
