what cable to use for socket extension

What is the size of circuit breaker/fuse of the existing circuit, is it a ring main or radial?

need to add a nother socket what cable should i use

cable that has copper as a conductor and has insulation on it would be a good start.

The safest way is just go into B&Q or Wickes and buy an extension lead - you can't really get easier and safer than that.

get a small extension lead with .5mm² cable and a 3A fuse. replace fuse with nail once it keeps blowing with 2 3KW heaters connected to it?

coming of another socket

did you not read the question?

but jsut to be on the safe side, i recommend you use 16mm T&E between the sockets.

or better still, 400MM 4core SWA. and double the conductors up if its single phase.

nah, i think bellwire would be sufficient.

GASTANK, DO YOU NOT GET IT??? we need more info!!!!!! socket??? what sort of socket? there are all kinds of wierd and wonderful sockets out there! what sort of circuit are you wiring this socket into? ring or radial? rating of circuit protective device? Where in the circuit are you wiring it to?

If you can't answer these questions, get an electrician, for your own sake.

bell wire?! thats rated far too high.

gastank - i recommend you use string.. dry string, that is.

come on guys it was a serious ?, i would recomend the cordless 13amp, it operates at 250ghz, just screw it to the wall and tune it in to your ring main, the ring will spot the new hardware and load the cable required, switch of the power and reboot your meter, all should work.!!!!!

thats good, but silly, besides it will not work for a socket on a wall, becuse it has to be windows

apparantly, walls are making their own version

ok, fair point, as breezer points out fix the cordless under a window, remember if its on the ground floor , rcd, dont think this will be part p, as you did not install the wire!!!!!

i'm getting the new version of Walls XP tomorrow, with service pack 3. Will let you know how I get on!

Well, Gastank, it looks like you've given the lads a lot of harmless amusement. I'm afraid they think that if you don't already know, you aren't safe to do the job.

But the serious reply, is that you can buy a 4-way extension lead at Tesco's or any DIY store that will do the job very easily, I actually use them a lot as you just have to plug them into your existing socket, no need even for a screwdriver. Get one rated at 13Amp (apart from the very cheapest, they all will be).

Kai is right, but don't believe any of the other stuff.
