What CCTV setup do I need?

I have a problem neighbour (silly anti social stuff but annoying - don’t want to report anything in case it devalues my house if I sell) and want to monitor my property along a fence line without infringing their privacy.

The area is between the gable ends of our two houses. Each of us has a path of 3ft separated by a fence (6ft high). Both ends then extend into a rear and front garden. Total run is probably around 30 metres.

Is there any way I can achieve this - film my side but not his? I appreciate that a low level camera/cameras might do the job but getting power to them might be a problem (happy to hear suggestions though).

The ideal would be something I could mount onto the gable end of my house (probably at loft level as it is an easier access for any power/cabling).

I have also thought about using a dummy camera just to put the frighteners on him.

If the neighbour can see the camera it is just likely to wind them up. Eufy do several solar powered cameras that could be fixed to the fence and allow viewing through WiFi.

How effective is the solar power if the camera is in the shade?
He'd have to see at least one of the cameras due to the area that needs to be covered, although I could probably cut a hole in a panel which is fitted where a gate would normally be.
He's been such a pain over the years that I'm not really sure I care about winding him up.

Probably can get some power to various points from bedrooms at gable end - is this just a case of running a DC cable through a hole in the wall then plugging into a socket inside?

Main priority is to deter idiot neighbour from doing something stupid that we can't see or whilst we are away along the boundary between the two houses (you can see the dead grass on the front lawn where he has swept chemicals off his path!). Whilst I'm at it, I'll probably put some other cameras up to cover the front of the house (suggestions for positions would be appreciated).

Reolink cameras have a good reputation, so would be worth looking at. They have solar powered options as well.

To be fair you may as well look at doing the cctv for the house.

Cables can be run to each point, my preference is hard wired and POE cameras on an NVR.

WiFi cameras are easily to interfere and have issues with compared to hardwired ones for the image/video feed.

You can place a camera for the view you want and mask out the areas you don’t want covering.

Hiding the camera in a model bird or something can prevent the neighbours getting peed off about it.

They only stop a neighbour from being anti social if they believe action will be taken against them.

You can have what ever you want and just use the cameras privacy mask to section off along the boundary.

You only need to recognise its the neighbour doing the deed at any point along your boundary.

I personally/ professionally would go POE and not have a wifi connection issue, its easier for your neighbour to take out the wifi but unlikely they would.

In general with location its as simple as can you get a cable there and would the camera get the image that you want.

Something covering the drive, something covering the front lawn, something covering the recess as this is where you neighbour gets to the front of your property.

Gable ends and something at the back.

As for what cameras, that comes down what you want from them.
so 24/7 colour, recognise or identify the person / thing of interest at what distance from your house.
Then audio capability, do you want to record audio, or be able to warm people that they have been spotted and that the area is under surveillance?

Are you allowed to record audio in a domestic setting? If it can pick up sound from the neighbours when they are on their own property, I think this might be against the law.

It isn’t illegal, no more than taking images from beyond your boundary.

How you use and share the data is the issue.

Take a look at the ICO.

You have good reason to record the audio, you will use the images and audio responsibly and you won’t be looking at the footage or listening to the audio for anything other than protection of you and your property.

The ones in the news in recent times is the abuse of the data taken and how it was then later used.
