What Combi Condenser Boiler should I fit?

I've ripped the old boiler out of a house I'm refurbishing and I need to install a new combi-condenser. A lot of the old complex network of pipework has gone and a more simplified system of brand new pipes fitted in its place.

I need a combi unit that will both perform well and be reliable, but I perhaps didnt do myself any favours by visiting B&Q and looking at the Heatline Vizo (A-rated version) for £500 as I'd rather not spend much more than this now.

I've read with interest the conflicting stories of their reliability on here but in all honesty I havent looked at other alternatives yet. Can any of you guys give me your honest opinion on how they perform and their reliability on an almost new heating system or if there are any other reasonably priced alternatives?

It might be worth you knowing that when the house is complete I will possibly be renting it out but may also decide to live in it myself.

a polite heads up..

if you rent a property out then you will become a landlord.

you will if the boiler is not installed by a corgi registered installer, you will fall foul of the landlords and tenants act.

if you intend living there your self then you will fall foul of the new home information pack, as the boiler cannot be signed off and if you wish to sell in the future, then the boiler would have to be reinstalled by a corgi registered installer for it to be signed off.

just so you are aware.

If you're competent and know your stuff, then a budget boiler won't cause you problems.

If you're incompetent and don't know your stuff, then an expensive boiler won't prevent you having problems.

Yes I should have mentioned that I haven't done the work myself - the pipework has been installed and pressure tested by a registered plumber friend of mine and an independant Corgi registered engineer will be installing the boiler unit and commissioning it for me.

Get yourself a Sabre 35 HE £549 and all the worry you can handle

I like the vizo plus as I know this boiler but it is only a 24kw boiler. For £520 I would get the Biasi Riva Compact 32HE. The best mix of price, performance and reliably at the moment IMO.

Now it does not matter what you get if you cheap out on installation then it’s not going to last

Gramatically the word "I" is the subject and "install" is the verb!

That means that you are going to install it yourself!

If not then why are you posting here when your chosen cORGI registered installer can give you all the answers?

I am surprised if B&Q are now selling the Band A Heatline boiler as they are about £600 elsewhere.

I do like the Solaris as it is easy to maintain and a really good simple design with the setup all on four pots, a Grunfoss pump and with everything accessable from the front.

The Solaris and vizo plus are different inside from each other. The vizo plus has the plastic covered heat exchanger and new dv. The Solaris still has the full stainless steel hx.

Solaris comes in 30kw and 35 kw models the vizo plus only in 24kw. From what I gather the solaris is going to become like the vizo plus in 12-18 months.

You will get exactly what you pay for in the end !!!

Either way youll own the property so will be liable for costs if things go belly up.. I personally would not fit that rubbish in a property full stop, and for the sake of a couple of hundred more quid go for something more decent ....
Just my opinion of course

Read post no 38 FAQS. :D

That is the opinion of one man. He puts the Atmos & Ethos in average, Worcester in the best. Pardon me!!!! Obviously never come across an Atmos. Some top quality boilers are missing too.
